My name is Elia Vanderheyden, I am a second bachelor Printmaking student at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp and I come from my hometown in Genk, Belgium. With my woodcuts I am trying to tell a new tale in the history of woodcut where I want to explore the diverse amount of possibilities that the wooden material has to offer.

Artwork Description:

Black Waves is a woodcut in a series of 4 variations where I explore the motion of the natural wood patterns and use these to create a new landscape. Giving new meaning and new life to the rich history of a dead tree. The series of prints slowly come to live starting with a white on white print, fading into the blue which gives it the feeling of the ocean and slowly turning to a traditional black print.
