Description of the work
Parrot, 2021
Assaf Hinden
Mixed media, archival pigment print
The work is based on an original artifact that was put up for forced auction in 1937 at the
Paul Graupe auction house in Berlin, and it was one of the largest private art collections auctioned during Nazi regime. Parrot is a part of an on-going project and visual study, based on a correspondence between the provenance researcher of the collector’s case and the artist, Assaf Hinden. The work is made by 3D modelling tracing, based on archival images of the acclaimed artifact (see images below). By different visual actions, the project assigns the missing artifacts a new function, while offering alternative ways of collecting, cataloging and preserving.
