Description

PERSONAL STATEMENT
My work is about the fragile lines between existing leftovers of humanity and nature that is reclaiming lost spaces. I create images that look like pure natural elements, but can be interpreted as human interference which is – after certain time- overruled by nature again. This metamorphosis is presented through elements such as ruins or decline in general, the transience of human interventions and the playful tension between light and shadow. In a lot of the works, nature is displayed in its rough, strong or dramatic forms. This powerful, uncontrollable and wild elements of nature are fascinating me. That’s why the creation of an image usually starts with a brief sketch and then continues evolving by using the unpredictability of the moment of drawing and painting itself. The basic element of all interesting things, is very often the presence – or a dialogue between – contrast and harmony whenever it’s presented in the absence or presence of light, shape or structures. Most certain, in two-dimensional work this exists in the way of drawing, used materials, use of colour, etc. All artworks shown, are create by using lithography. Not only is it a medium that is perfect to create a spontaneous and fast edition, it’s also a very physical technique, in which the artist can completely disappear while working. The specific characteristics of the technique influence the image strongly and give the opportunity to create a very personally language. One of the main inspirations to me is the Italian sculptor Alessandro Piangiamore. His material ‘paintings’ in the series “Ieri Ikebana”, starting from 2016 are balancing on the verge of abstraction, but show in the same time very recognisable materials such as flowers and earthy textures. In an interview he said “In my work, I often try to crystallize everything ephemeral by flitting through a practical approach to the matter, which allows me to cleave to the reality. My research aims not to create single objects but to make their inner shapes and images emerge. Rather than being static or frontal, their features are accomplished through evocations and semantic and visual shifts.”In visualising and texturizing these ephemeral elements of nature, in a certain way they get fixated. In my prints I try to give these elements a timeless quality.
