Sarah De Vos (b. 1985, Vilvoorde) is a Belgian artist who studied painting at Sint-Lucas Antwerp and completed a postgraduate program at De Ateliers in Amsterdam. For over twenty years, she has been developing a coherent and distinctive body of work, which is now part of several notable museum and private collections.
De Vos is known for her visually rich and technically refined paintings, often with an almost photographic quality. Her work explores themes of transformation, reflection, and the dynamic interaction between viewer and image. She draws inspiration from music, art history, and the ongoing tension between humanity and nature.
She currently has a studio at Cas-co in Leuven and is represented by Gallery Sofie Van de Velde.
The sea is a recurring element in Sarah De Vos’ oeuvre, taking on different roles throughout her various “Albums”. Portrait is part of a diptych, together with Landscape. Each work stands on its own, yet the interplay between the two compositions causes both the images and our interpretation of them to shift. Landscape and Portrait question the concept of landscape, our digital viewing habits, and our perception.
