Description
This work was created during a residency at Arteventura in Spain and is part of a series of four. The title refers to one of the many nicknames of the Opuntia ficus-indica. These solitary, exotic plants stood out among the cork and holm oaks that dominate the landscape in this region of Andalusia. I zoom in on their striking, sculptural forms and the dotted pattern of their spines. They appear to gaze back at you, while the light in the background hints at their native habitat.
