Inês de Vasconcelos Miguel (b.1985, Lisbon) is a portuguese visual artist.

She graduated from Escola Superior Artística do Porto with a degree in Fine Arts and Multimedia in 2008. In 2013 Inês moved to Berlin and lived there for 10 years.

Whether she chooses to perform, to paint or to take a photograph, there is always a need of connection with her surroundings. The need in using her body, even in painting when she uses her hand to touch the paper with paint, is the ultimum need of experiencing that relationship. In this sense her work reflects on the concepts of time, connection, absorption and environment.

Performance art plays an important role in her artistic journey. Highlighting the performances presented at Venice Performance Art Week, at Palazzo Mora, Venice; Fieber Festival 2017, at Meinblau Projektraum, Berlin; Sofia Underground – International Performance Art Festival, Sofia; Tarabya Cultural Academy, Istanbul.

Highlighting group exhibitions at Serralves Museum, Porto; Factory Art, Berlin; Fábrica Braço de Prata, Lisbon; Fundação Escultor José Rodrigues, Porto and at the 1st International Biennial of Montijo, Montijo.

In 2023 Inês left Berlin to start a new chapter of her life in Brittany, France, where she currently works and lives.

Description

Portrait XXII emerges from a desire to explore the concepts of connection, boundaries and openness.

Using the self-portrait to question the relationship with her own self-image, the artist invites the viewer to submerge in the realms of self-exploration.

There is a game going on between hiding and opening up. This visual metaphor questions how open and willing we actually are to relate to the others.
