Karsten Krogh-Hansen (b. 1997, Oslo, Norway; based in Antwerp, Belgium) is a visual artist who is completing his MFA with a specialization in painting from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Antwerp. His work navigates the shifting ways images are consumed today—shaped by nostalgia, popular culture, and digital technology. Moving between landscapes, figures, and repetitive forms, he distances himself from his subjects in order to turn unfamiliar scenes into something intimate and personal. Memory plays a central role in his practice, often bringing a melancholic tone to the work, though hints of humor remain close at hand.

Description

Ms. Melody is a painting that explores the dialouge between structure and spontaneity. Composed within a repetitive grid, the work challenges its own framework through fluid, gestural brushstrokes that disrupt and soften the rigid system. The face of a woman gradually emerges from selected squares, her melancholic expression unfolding through a process of intuitive mark-making. The portrait is constructed step by step—each stroke like a note, contributing to a visual rhythm that relates to the act of composing music.

The title, Ms. Melody is giving a personal identity to the portrait. The figure appears introspective and distant, as if caught between presence and absence, melody and silence.
