LISTEN TO THE AUDIO ABOUT THIS ARTWORK
[ays_poll id=270]
By sending letters that can’t be read or inviting visitors to draw on his documentary images, Tomas Bachot creates seemingly impossible arrangements. He stands still, listens, looks and connects with his environment. The sound of the sea at the highway or a talk with a colleague at the chocolate factory, are a few of the small encounters in his daily life that sparked long-term projects. Photographs, diary notes, short stories, installations, audio recordings or videos, he carefully chooses and mixes mediums treating them as carriers of distinct sensations. By letting the voices of other people be part of the process, he composes layered bodies of work.
Together with fellow artists Bachot runs de Facktorij collective, a home for creation and experiment, celebrating the extraordinary. In their shared atelier the artists meet, support and inspire each other. Step by step they deepen their artistic identity.
Bachot (1989, Belgium) lives and works in Antwerp, Belgium. He completed a Master in Visual Arts from KASK School of Arts, Ghent in 2016 and a Bachelor in Journalism from AP University of Applied Sciences and Arts, Antwerp in 2010.
