ONBOARDS BIENNALE 2023 TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  • Participation is open to all living artists 18 years old or above.
  • Participants must fill out the application form with personal info and submit: a maximum of one (1) image of their artwork in a digital format, and one (1) pdf file with their biography, ONLINE. Applications without biography will not be accepted. Onboards Biennale reserves the right to use this information on its website page and for the audio/podcast.
  • Please note that after the selection, the final image must be sent in high quality, for printing in A0 format ( 810x 1135 mm -300dpi). If failed to do so, the selected works will be considered ineligible and will not be accepted for the biennale.
  • The deadline for submitting applications is April 15th, 2023.
  • There is no participation fee.
  • The selection board will select the artworks in May 2023. The decision of the selection committee is final and ONBOARDS vzw is not obliged to provide any feedback concerning any decision. All participants will be notified about the selection via email by the end of May 2023.
  • Note that explicitly sexual, violent or offensive content and obvious nudity will not be accepted because the artworks will be displayed in public spaces and are subject to the City of Antwerp’s Public Art display regulations. Besides that, the ONBOARDS Biennale reserves the right not to accept artworks they consider unsuitable for the biennale. 
  • By submitting their artworks, participants authorise ONBOARDS vzw to publish and use them for the ONBOARDS BIENNALE website, social media, publication, and public communication.
  • The submitted artwork must be personal work, owned and therefore copyrighted by the artist; It must not infringe on any copyright, trademark, or intellectual property. 
  • By submitting the artwork, participants may, if they wish, authorize the ONBOARDS vzw to sell the prints of the submitted artwork during the biennale and one month after the biennale. The price starts at a minimum of € 100 per art print (the artist will receive 70% of the profit of the sales). 
  • ONBOARDS Biennale provides one side of a billboard x 4 weeks on two locations for each selected artist (after 2 weeks the artworks will change location).
  • The locations are spread throughout the city of Antwerp and across the districts. There is no possibility of a location preference or choice. In collaboration with Agrafa, ONBOARDS Biennale strives to give two diverse locations to each artist.
  • The name of the artist and the title of the work will be displayed underneath the art print. 
  • A podcast about the artist and his artwork will be part of the exhibition.
  • Each participating artist will have his/hers own page on the ONBOARDS Biennale website. The page includes the name, biography, title and description of the artwork and links to the artist’s website/social media page. The audience will be able to access this webpage through a QR code applied on the billboard and online. 
  • The artwork will be visible on the website only after the exhibition. 
  • The ONBOARDS Biennale posts and shares the images of the art prints situated in the public space through social media, website and other media channels of the project partners and collaborators.
  • ONBOARDS vzw has the right to print and keep/own one example of each participating artwork.
  • The ONBOARDS Biennale and partners grand a Jury Award and a Public Awards
  • Jury Award is reserved for the participants of the Open Call and students. The jury assigned by the ONBOARDS vzw will award 3 artists.
  • Public Award is open to ALL participants of the ONBOARDS Biennale 2023. The public will choose 3 winners by voting via QR code and online.
  • All communication between the organizers and participants will be conducted via email.
  • Although the participants own the copyright of their works, the ONBOARDS vzw reserves the right to use these for publications, in any public media, written or electronic and/or the social media and other sites of the Onboards Bienniale. Also, visitors will be allowed to take photos of all venues and displayed works. Furthermore, the ONBOARDS vzw is not responsible for the use or misuse of pictures taken at the exhibition by visitors and others.
  • Chosen and displayed artworks may not be removed for any reason before the end of the exhibition unless ONBOARDS vzw finds this necessary. 
  • All participants must comply with the terms and conditions of the Onboards Bienniale 2023.
