“Rainscape”- Composition

The performance presented to you is part of an ongoing research project “Sound in Space, Space in Movement” conducted by me, Anna Godzina, at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Antwerp.

As a researcher, one of the most important aspects for me was to invite professional musicians and composers in order to use their expertise and create musical pieces that are combining the industrial aspect of my kinetic sound sculptures with classical music.

Yannick Heeren had written musical scores based on the sounds of the sculpture created by me, reproducing the repetitive motion, even on-even rhythmic patterns, suggestive melodic patterns.

The viola version of “Rainscape” is a non-linear score and is performed by Cornelia Zambila.

The main goal of the performance is to explore the alliance between the automatic sounds produced by the kinetic sculpture and the musicians ever changing human perception.

Artificially natural vein is to create performative situations wherein the artist expresses her physicality and the manufactured objects (paper and ink) as a representation of our collective interconnectedness with the natural environment. The collection of the images depict the similar relation between the surface of the human body and the veins from nature, which includes the image and the poetry of how she addresses herself as a plant living in this world, presenting the aesthetics of the consequences of an artificially natural world.
