Karolina Lilliequist is an artist and illustrator based in Växjö, Sweden. With a background in architecture, she works in the intersection of visual art, design and public engagement. Her practice explores relationships — particularly the human connection to nature within urban environments — and how we understand place, memory and everyday life through visual expression.

She works with techniques such as collage, scanning, drawing and plant-based materials, where the organic meets the graphic. Her images often carry a poetic yet clear visual language, in which nature, memory and symbolism are interwoven into visual moods and narratives.

Karolina is also deeply engaged in participatory and pedagogical processes. In her workshops with children and young people, she seeks to create space for creativity, confidence and the joy of making. She is passionate about helping children find their inner voice and using art to influence the built environment around them. Creativity, visual thinking and symbolic imagery are at the heart of her work.

She has over 20 years of experience as a freelance illustrator and has exhibited her work in various contexts, both individually and in collaboration with others. She is one half of the artistic duo Quist & Quist. Her images have been used in public communication, cultural projects and site-specific artworks.

Description

A quiet reminder made of roots.

In this collage, letters grow from the soil to form the words Don’t forget. The plants have been carefully uprooted, scanned, and arranged into a message that can be seen as both personal and universal. The letters are made of living lines: fragile, winding, grounded.

What is it we are not to forget? Our origin, our body, our connection to the earth – and our way of living with it. This is a note, a warning, and a whisper — rooted in what we may already know, but risk forgetting.

In the public space, the work becomes a reminder, a pause, a point of contact between city and soil. It is created with care, but aims to leave a mark – like an organic message in a world that often moves too fast.
