In the work titled Something I Can’t Control the thin layer of printmaking ink floats on the surface of paper sheet. Work explores color both as haptic and visual material.
Ari Pelkonen (born 1978) is visual artist (MFA) living and working in Helsinki, Finland. Pelkonen works are strongly linked on the field of printed art. The printmaking techniques, painting, moving image and three-dimensionality that Pelkonen uses in his works are all ways to visualize the field of printed art and contribute to expanding the perception of what printed art and printmaking can be at this time. Cooperation with the methods and materials of printed art, as well as making things by hand, are at the center of Pelkonen´s art-making. Pelkonen´s works have been exhibited in e.g. At the Saatchi Gallery London, at Tartu Art Hall and Eka Gallery in Estonia and in The Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma Helsinki. Pelkonen´s works are held in all the main collections in Finland. Pelkonen was awarded the Finnish Young Artist of the Year Award and nominated for the International Queen Sonja Print Award (both 2012). Pelkonen has worked at the University of the Arts Helsinki in the printmaking department in various capacities, including the Head of the Department.
