TANIA SIMONCA
Born in 1995 in Zalau, Romania, Tania studied painting at Art and Design University of Cluj-Napoca and currently is doing her master at Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. In 2018 she did an Erasmus at Ecolé Supérieure des Arts Saint-Luc Liège in Belgium and before applying to Royal Academy of fine arts she studied in Arendonk Academy, focusing on printmaking.
In 2019 she exhibited at De Warande in Turnhout during Europalia festival, edition dedicated to Romania. In 2020 she was selected to exhibit at Diploma festival in Bucharest, Romania, an exhibition for graduates, and in 2023 she participated at Antwerp Art Weekend in the context of ticker-tape parade, organized by NICC. In 2024 she was selected for the group show Unveiling the Traces of My Own Shadow, a collaboration between Jecza Gallery x Himera, in Timisoara, Romania and at the end of 2024 she participated in a group show ‘Polyphony Resonance’ at Art Museum of Sichuan Institute of Fine Arts, Chongqing, China.
Ranging from paintings to monotype and printmaking, Tania thrives to keep the pictural aspect of her practice in the mediums she uses. Her works are an exploration regarding space: space as landscape, atmospheric images and states that relate to these spaces.
Tania’s first medium of work is oil, but the variety of techniques that printmaking offers in combination with painting opens an infinite space for exploration, creating a diverse body of work.

Description

The core of my explorations it was always the human being with an accent on experiences one has, the reflexions and the questions behind them. The body of my work aim to reproduce and describe momentary states, uncertain, ambiguous spaces, depicting different atmospheric situations that are attributed to individual’s everyday scenarios. This work represents a turning point in my practice by bringing the warm, bright palette into my working space. I was inspired by the painting of Fragonard, The Swing, and wanted to create myself an interpretation of it. Skipping completely the original story and the message behind it, but still retaining that spring, love, temptation, passion feeling that can be sensed in Fragonard’s painting.
