Description
In Korean culture, it is customary to commemorate joyful occasions by printing the date and event on towels and distributing them for free. These towels become part of daily life—used at home to dry our bodies—while quietly reminding us of someone’s special day. From this everyday ritual, this project was born: a reflection on the coexistence and cycle of joy and sorrow.
While one person may have laughed on a particular day, another may have wept. The same date can hold entirely different meanings for different people. This project seeks to honor both emotions—celebration and grief—equally.
By reinterpreting the commemorative towel, we explore how memory, emotion, and community intersect in the most ordinary of objects. Through this, we aim to create a space that remembers all human experiences—both the highs and the lows—as equally meaningful.
In remembering the joy, we also remember the sorrow. This is a tribute to the full spectrum of life’s emotions.
