Tianjun Li (1999, CN/FI) is an interdisciplinary artist. Working with lens-based media, sound, and experimental voice, his practice blends photography, performance, and immersive installation. Through synesthesia and a four-octave vocal range, Li constructs surreal, speculative environments where more-than-human voices become projections of socio-ecological realities.

Merging myth and reality, his work explores alternative notions of the Anthropocene and reimagines migration, identity, and freedom. Li holds a Master’s degree in Visual Cultures, Curating, and Contemporary Art, with a minor in Sound in New Media, from Aalto University.

His works have been exhibited and performed internationally, including at the Design Museum Barcelona, Copenhagen Photo Festival (DK), MUU Helsinki Contemporary Art Center, PhotoNorth-Northern Photography Centre (Solo, FI), Contemporary Image Museum (CN), Helsinki City Museum (FI), M. Žilinskas Art Museum (LT), Skissernas Museum (SE), Helsinki International Artist Programme (FI), Finnish Museum of Theatre (FI), Kotka Art Biennale (FI) Stockholm Fringe Festival (SE), among others.

Description

Today, Tomorrow, and the Tales from the Wind is a photographic series that explores the evolving narrative of a drifting sense of home, memory, and ecological transformation.

Rooted in my migration journey to the Nordics, the work began as a reflection on the deforestation of both my hometown in China and the Nordic landscapes — two places that have shaped my understanding of what “home” means. Through double exposure photography, I “replant” trees from my hometown into Iceland’s treeless terrains — landscapes shaped by historical deforestation and climate. In doing so, I reimagine the relationship between humans and nature while offering a poetic meditation on migration and belonging.

Through this work, I trace the outlines of a world where the uprooted carve out new meanings of place, and where the connection between people and the natural world is re-envisioned with care and imagination.
