OPEN CALL FOR ARTISTS to participate in ONBOARDS BIENNALE 2021
SHOW UP / SHOW-OFF
JUNE 28 – JULY 25 in ANTWERP
ONBOARDS Biennale is an exhibition of newly created artworks displayed on billboards across the city.
The exhibition presents art prints from national and international established and emerging artists, artists from Antwerp Art Galleries and from art students of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts and Sint Lucas Antwerp.
From June 28 till July 25 2021, the public can discover many art prints on Antwerp city’s billboards.
The submitted artworks are seen by a broad audience and reviewed by renowned gallerists, art advisors, curators and art publishers.
As part of the exhibition, the ONBOARDS Biennale initiates lectures, audio tours, performances, indoor exhibitions, and a public and professional art prize.
ONBOARDS Biennale creates a unique opportunity for visual artists to have their artwork exhibited in the public space, announced and sold on the ONBOARDS Biennale online platform and qualified for the Audience Award.
The ONBOARDS Biennale is the second chapter of the Billboard Project Antwerp. The first Billboard Project was initiated in 2007. For one week, 50 original artworks were exhibited on the billboards of the Antwerp City Center. Subsequently, the Billboard Project evolved and presented every other year a broader approach towards the dialogue, exchange and understanding of art in public spaces. Crucial to its success has been the collaboration with key players of the local and international experts in the art field, art schools and universities, and the ongoing support of various partners.
With the ONBOARDS Biennale, we aim to bring art closer to society, address the general public in their daily environment by offering a possibility of participation for both artists, stakeholders of the art world, and the audience.
THE ONBOARDS BIENNALE PROVIDES
Public exhibition of artworks on billboards for four weeks during the summer
Each participating artist can show his art print on a billboard over a period of four weeks. ONBOARDS Biennale provides one side of a billboard for each artist.
The artist name and the title of the work is visibly displayed underneath the art print.
The billboards and art prints’ locations are in the city centre and spread across the districts. There is no possibility for location preference or choice. In collaboration with Agrafa, ONBOARDS Biennale strives to create the right balance between locations and diverse artists groups.
A short podcast about the artist and his art work will be part of the exhibition.
One art print for each artist
At the end of the ONBOARDS Biennale, each participating artist will receive one A0 art print of the exhibited work.
Presence on the online ONBOARDS Biennale platform
Each participating artist is presented on the ONBOARDS Biennale website. The presentation includes the name, biography, title and description of the artwork and a link to the artists website/social media page. The audience will be able to access this presentation webpage only through a QR code applied on the billboard and in the months after, online.
