I’m Silke Boumans (1998), an illustrator based in Antwerp. I’m currently studying in the Autonomous master at Sint Lucas Antwerp.

In my work, I often collect and use found materials like paper scraps, notes, and small everyday objects. Collecting has always been part of my practice, but this year I chose to focus on it more deeply. By using these objects in my illustrations and installations, I explore ideas of memory, place, and connection.

Beschrijving

When I moved to this city, everything felt unfamiliar. To feel more connected, I started collecting small things I found on the street: pieces of paper, packaging, broken objects — things most people would ignore or throw away.
These objects helped me look more closely at my surroundings. I didn’t always know why I kept something, only that it felt important in that moment.
Together, they tell a story — not just about the city, but about me trying to find a place in it, trying to connect with it. It’s a way of holding on to something when everything feels new.
This project is about paying attention. It’s about how small things can help you not feel lost. It’s about the relationship between me and this new city.
Each object is a little memory, a small map of where I’ve been. By collecting, I slowly begin to feel at home.
