This work mimics the visual language of commercial advertising: bright colors, glossy packaging, and a catchy product image. At first glance, it appears to promote a bag of chips — but a closer look reveals the product is called Relationships, with a Sweet & Sour flavor.
With this work, we explore how relationships, like snack foods, are often consumed quickly, packaged attractively, and filled with contrasting emotions. The sweet and sour flavor metaphor speaks to the duality within human connection: joy and pain, closeness and distance, support and conflict. By recontextualizing a mundane object, we aim to provoke reflection on the way we relate to each other and the world around us.
The work brings everyday visual culture into dialogue with deeper emotional truths, inviting passersby to pause and reconsider what’s beneath the surface of both products and people. It questions what we value and how we connect.
In today’s world, sweetness can quickly sour — and bitterness, unexpectedly, can reveal tenderness. Certainties dissolve; opposites intertwine. Connection, in all its flavors, remains our most vital and fragile bond.
Through humor and familiarity, Relationships – Sweet & Sour restores attention to the emotional layers of our connections, turning a fleeting glance into a moment of recognition and reflection.
