LISTEN TO THE AUDIO ABOUT THIS ARTWORK

[ays_poll id=291]

Kayin Luys (23, he/him) is a journalist and photographer who exchanged his home base of Neerpelt for our capital a few years ago. From here he wants to develop his young artistic practice. Inspired by the conventions of film, he seeks the boundaries between documentary and fiction with his analog camera. In this directed reality, he likes to bring people together, looking for connection. The result is a stiffened world in which color plays an important role.

Description

In Don’t Trust Pretty Girls, Kayin Luys explores his relationship with his Georgian in-laws. The title refers to the tattoo on the grandfather’s arm. The images balance between fiction and documentary. The classic relationship between photographer and subject fades, what remains is a play of scenarios that mirror or transcend reality. Photography becomes a medium to get in touch with each other.
