PRESENTED BY GALLERY PLUS-ONE:

PLUS-ONE Gallery is a contemporary art gallery that represents and exhibits Belgian and international artists.

Together with the artist, strategies are defined to bring the body of work to a new level. The gallery aims to build long-term relations with artists, collectors, institutes and other galleries. Moving away from a conventional competition-minded gallery model and creating collaborations focused on shared opportunities and networks.

PLUS-ONE Gallery was founded in 2016 by Jason Poirier dit Caulier. The name ‘+1’ stands for ‘more’: the gallery strives for more openness concerning collaboration, more transparency, more Antwerp, more adventure and long-term thinking.

The gallery has 2 public spaces located in the Antwerp Art & Museum district.

Victor Verhelst (Belgium, 1997) lives and works in Ghent, Belgium.

As a designer, visual artist he works on the intersection of autonomous and commissioned projects in an artistic context.

Victor Verhelst’s autonomous artwork consists of very diverse mediums: from keeping it digital as an NFT, to unique riso print pieces, from large wall tapestries to works with interactive game technology, mostly combined with a digital twin, always starting from his digital canvas where his ongoing series ‘trippy vegas’ – later on transformed into ‘TOXIC HAWAII’- are born: his conception of a growing digital city consisting of virtual cityscapes and buildings.

Description

The distortion and juxtaposition of 2D and 3D image planes in the creation of figurative color combinations characterises his aesthetics. Printed matter – from digital to 3D, from risography to textile – forms his starting point, always working with the relationship of the materiality to the pre-made (digital) image.
