OPEN CALL FOR ARTISTS to participate in ONBOARDS BIENNALE 2021

ONBOARDS Biennale is an exhibition of newly created artworks displayed on billboards across the city.

The exhibition presents art prints from national and international established and emerging artists, artists from Antwerp Art Galleries and from art students of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts and Sint Lucas Antwerp.

From June 28 till July 25 2021, the public can discover many art prints on Antwerp city’s billboards.

The submitted artworks are seen by a broad audience and reviewed by renowned gallerists, art advisors, curators and art publishers.

As part of the exhibition, the ONBOARDS Biennale initiates lectures, audio tours, performances, indoor exhibitions, and a public and professional art prize.

THE ONBOARDS BIENNALE PROVIDES

Public exhibition of artworks on billboards for four weeks during the summer

Each participating artist can show his art print on a billboard over a period of four weeks. ONBOARDS Biennale provides one side of a billboard for each artist.

The artist name and the title of the work is visibly displayed underneath the art print.

The billboards and art prints’ locations are in the city centre and spread across the districts. There is no possibility for location preference or choice. In collaboration with Agrafa, ONBOARDS Biennale strives to create the right balance between locations and diverse artists groups.

A short podcast about the artist and his art work will be part of the exhibition.

One art print for each artist

At the end of the ONBOARDS Biennale, each participating artist will receive one A0 art print of the exhibited work.

PARTICIPATION

  1. ARTISTS CAN PARTICIPATE WITH A MAXIMUM OF 1 WORK, SUBMITTED ONLINE IN A DIGITAL FILE (*) 


    THE WORK IS IDEALLY CREATED FOR THE ONBOARDS BIENNALE 2021 – SHOW UP / SHOW- OFF

  2. BESIDES THE DIGITAL FILE, ARTISTS NEED TO PROVIDE A PDF FILE THAT INCLUDES:

• a short biography
• a brief description of the submitted artwork
• the link to their website and the link to their social media channels

This information will be used on the Onboards website page, its social media channels and for the short audio tour/podcast that will be part of the exhibition.

3. SUBMISSION DEADLINE: 20 MAY 2021 – NOW PROLONGED UNTILL 30 MAY 2021!

4. SUBMISSION FEE: 25 EURO

5. SELECTION PROCEDURE:

Submitted works are first checked on their conformity. Latest 31st May, the selection committee will select the works for the ONBOARDS Biennale 2021. The selection committee consists of: Bruno De Vos (art book publisher and curator), Ruth Pelzer Montada (artist and scholar), Spank Moons (artist and curator). The artists will be informed about the outcome of the selection latest 5th June.

Please note: explicitly sexual, violent or offensive content, will not be accepted due to the fact that the artworks will be displayed in public spaces and are subject to City of Antwerp’s Public Art display regulations. Besides that, the ONBOARDS Biennale reserves the right not to accept artworks which they consider to be unsuitable for the Biennale. By submitting your work, you authorize ONBOARDS VZW to publish and use submitted images, information and your name for the ONBOARDS website, social media, publication, and public communication. By submitting your work, you authorize the ONBOARDS VZW to sell the prints of submitted artwork in unlimited edition, during the biennale and one months after the biennale. The price is starting at a minimum of € 50 per art print (the artist will receive 70% of the net profit of the sales). For any other matter you will be first contacted by a member of the ONBOARDS VZW team. The submitted artwork must be personal work, owned and therefore copyrighted by the artist, It must not infringe on any copyright, trademark, or intellectual property.By submitting your work you agree with general terms and conditions of the ONBOARDS Biennale 2021.
